More and more organizations are choosing to bring a privacy professional in-house, despite the fact that this is far from mandatory under European privacy laws. To ensure compliance with the strict requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (AVG), employers are increasingly requiring some form of proof that demonstrates the candidate privacy professional has sufficient knowledge. One common requirement is possession of a CIPP/E certificate. Why is this such a sought-after certificate? Attorney I Chu Chao answers three key questions.

CIPP/E stands for: 'Certified Information Privacy Professional / Europe' and is an internationally recognized certification for privacy professionals. CIPP/E mainly covers the 'what' and 'why' of European privacy legislation (AVG). If you are CIPP/E certified, it means that you have passed the CIPP/E certification exam and then you can put the title 'CIPP/E' after your name. This allows you to demonstrate that you have sufficient knowledge of European privacy legislation.
The CIPP/E certification is suitable for anyone who wants to work in the field of privacy or wants to deepen your privacy knowledge. It doesn't really matter if you are employed, or work for yourself. If you deal with privacy issues within your company, or you want to offer privacy-related services, it is useful to be able to demonstrate your privacy knowledge using the internationally recognized CIPP/E certification.
There is a growing demand in the market for privacy professionals and this is only expected to increase in the future due to the growing focus on privacy and data protection. CIPP/E is an internationally recognized (and well-known) privacy certification, making it virtually indispensable for privacy professionals; it is almost considered a "minimum requirement" to get started in the privacy field. Certification does not provide a 100% quality guarantee, but it does provide a certain "comfort" to (potential) employers and clients that things are okay in terms of privacy knowledge. This could, for example, justify a higher salary or hourly rate.
On March 5, 2020, the 2-day CIPP/E exam training course provided by I Chu Chao will begin.
