The Digital Services Act (DSA) is a regulation proposed by the European Commission. The DSA is the successor to the E-Commerce Directive (Electronic Commerce Directive 2000/31/EC). Due to the changing role of online intermediaries and the need to protect users from increased illegal e-commerce, following the European Union a review of the existing regulatory framework is needed. On December 15, 2020, the European Commission published the final proposal for the DSA. Under the ordinary legislative procedure for adopting European regulations, directives and decisions, the proposal will be further discussed in the European Parliament and the European Council.
