The AI Governance Framework helps municipalities safely and responsibly procure, develop and use AI and algorithms. This way, risks such as privacy violations and discrimination are mitigated and trust in this technology grows.
The AI Governance Framework is a complement to existing IT and data governance. It is set up as a website with a knowledge base, tools and process steps. Municipalities are deploying AI and algorithms, for example, for chatbots that help residents with questions and for smart traffic lights that adapt to congestion. They can use the framework as a checklist for new projects, add to existing processes and share experiences.
Municipalities such as Utrecht, Veenendaal, Amersfoort, Arnhem and Holland Rijnland helped develop the AI Governance Framework together with the VNG. The tool grows along with current events. Everyone can contribute to improvement and practice testing via aienalgoritmen@vng.nl.
