The AIVD is starting to set up a Chief Science & Technology Office (CSTO). Bas Dunnebier has been appointed as quartermaster. The lightning-fast technological developments, such as in the fields of quantum and AI, are forcing the service to equip itself properly. This will enable it to respond to the opportunities and challenges presented by technological and scientific innovation.
Erik Akerboom, Director General AIVD: "The speed of technological developments forces us to be proactive. This requires a good vision and a coordinated approach. So that we can embrace developments at an early stage and use them in the performance of our statutory duties, and for our own operations. This is only possible if people and resources are available for this and it is anchored in the organization. I am pleased that Bas Dunnebier wants to take the lead in this.'
For the past 7.5 years, Dunnebier has devoted himself wholeheartedly to the Resilience Unit, of which he has also been the head for the past 4.5 years.
Bas Dunnebier: "I am extremely looking forward to working together with our professionals and our partners as the leader of the CSTO. And to increase national security through the enhanced use of technology and innovation. We can gain a lot if we make the incredible amount of knowledge and skill of our own experts visible and manage to connect the inside and outside world.'
The CSTO will have a driving, coordinating and supporting role. The office strongly seeks connections with national and international public and private parties in the fields of technology, innovation and science.
