Big Tech lobbies US for 10-year ban against AI regulation
Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Meta are all lobbying the US Republican Party for a blanket ban on regulation in the AI sector for the next decade, reports The Financial Times. The controversial lobbying is causing controversy both within the AI industry and among Republicans.

The tech giants' lobbyists are urging the U.S. Senate to ban states from introducing regulation. The business community favors a ban; regulation would stifle innovation. OpenAI founder Sam Altman said in the Senate that it would be "disastrous" if the U.S. introduced measures similar to those of the EU.

But there are also dissenting voices within the Republican Party. Some senators point out that it is unclear what AI may be capable of in the future. A lack of regulation, they say, could be dangerous.
