These are smart airfryers for sale in the United Kingdom: the Aigostar, Xiaomi Mi Smart and Cosori CAF-LI401S.
These three devices know the exact location. They also ask for permission to record conversations on the user's phone. One of the airfryers is connected to trackers from Facebook and TikTok, among others. One other device wants to know the user's gender and date of birth. The Aigostar and Xiaomi airfryers send personal data to servers in China, even though that is not mentioned in the privacy statement.
Which? rated the three airfryers in the categories: consent, transparency, data security, data minimization, trackers and data deletion. "It shows how smart technology manufacturers and the companies they partner with are currently collecting consumer data, seemingly in a reckless manner, and often with little or no transparency," said Harry Rose, editor of Which? magazine.
