The new government wants a European minimum age of 15 for social media. There must also be privacy-friendly age verification for young people.

This is stated in the chapter entitled "The Netherlands: leader in a digital world" of the coalition agreement presented last Friday.
The incoming cabinet also wants stricter supervision of large online platforms. This includes obligations regarding transparency about algorithms and revenues, and the moderation of illegal content.
There are also plans to tackle disinformation and online influence. All available means must be used to hold social media platforms accountable in this regard. The National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism (NCTV) should monitor the origin and spread of disinformation.
Another plan is to ban addictive, polarizing, and anti-democratic algorithms. Criminal content must be removed within one hour of an order from the regulator.
