The criminals broke open a total of ten computers at the Internal Medicine and Allergology outpatient clinics. The hard drives stolen in the process contained medical data as well as names and citizen service numbers. The hospital states that the data on the hard disks is secure and that the data leak has had no consequences for ongoing treatments.

Victims of the data breach were informed by UMC Utrecht, and a report was also filed with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (AP). The hospital has also filed a police report.
