The South Limburg healthcare agency Xonar has fallen victim to cybercriminals. The hackers managed to gain access to part of the company's network and get their hands on data. The healthcare institution called in external security experts and reported the incident to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens and the police. Xonar announced the data breach via a press release.

The healthcare agency with offices in Maastricht, Heerlen and Limbricht reveals few details about what happened. In a statement, Xonar says only that cybercriminals managed to infiltrate the company's network and captured data. Whether client data, confidential company information or other data was involved is currently under investigation. As a precaution, all employees, clients, contacts, partners and other external parties have been informed of the incident.
Xonar said in a press statement that, to our knowledge, no data has been made public by the attackers. "All our efforts are aimed at preventing that from happening," the South Limburg healthcare institution said. As soon as it becomes clear what data is involved, those affected will be informed immediately. How many victims are affected by the data breach is being investigated.
When the data breach came to light, Xonar immediately brought in outside security experts. Additional security measures were taken, but the healthcare institution would not go into details. Who is responsible for the data theft and whether a ransom was demanded, the agency would not say.
Despite the data breach, business operations are not at risk. "Our care services are safeguarded and continue as usual. Clients can come to us and our employees are doing their care tasks as always," the press release reads. Xonar calls on victims to be "extra vigilant" for possible scams and fraud, such as phishing and identity fraud. The incident has been reported to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens and the police.
"We regret the inconvenience and are doing all we can to resolve this as soon as possible. We will keep those directly affected informed of the progress and we will also post updates on this website with the latest status," Xonar ends the press release.
