Several Dutch housing associations have warned their tenants about a data breach. These include Haag Wonen, Mozaïek Wonen and Woonpunt.
The cause of the incident was the cyber attack on ista. This energy supplier provides housing associations with the installation of energy and water meters, registration of meter readings, individual settlements and meter maintenance.
All systems that may have been affected have been taken offline by ista. It is not yet clear whether the hackers captured any data. The energy supplier has the data of tenants of the corporations it works for. Ista did not reveal whether it was a ransomware attack. When all systems will be back online is unclear at this time.
"After thoroughly checking the Dutch IT environment, we have decided that it is safe to slowly restart our local applications and start working again in certain areas. Given the international nature of certain applications, it is unavoidable that it will take more time before we are fully up and running again," ista said.
