Digital education has benefits and can enhance educational quality, but it also has negative effects. Students spend a long time behind the screen, there is less social contact, less control over the educational offerings and there are also privacy risks. This is stated in the report "Towards high-quality digital education" by the Rathenau Institute. The report describes what is needed for the transition to good digital education.

The report describes 4 practical examples, from primary education to higher education. For each example, the researchers look at a number of public values (1). What is the state of justice, humanity and autonomy in these situations? Furthermore, the positive and negative effects of digitization in education are listed.
The report indicates that different parties must work together to improve educational quality. Politics, education makers and providers and society. It is up to these parties to develop an overarching vision, set requirements, provide support and stimulate research.
