EDPB makes it easier for organizations to comply with the AVG
At a meeting July 1 and 2 in Helsinki, the presidents of the national regulators in the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) reached agreements on the application of the General Data Protection Regulation (AVG). The agreements are a milestone in terms of clarity, support and commitment for organizations in Europe that must comply with the AVG.
In the
appointments are new initiatives to make it easier and more efficient for organizations to comply with the AVG. And to bring personal data protection together with (digital) innovation. This mainly concerns small and medium-sized organizations.
Practical tools
The EDPB is coming up with clear education and practical tools. Think standard data breach notifications, checklists, manuals and answers to frequently asked questions.
Consistency and cooperation
Emphasis will also be placed on consistent interpretation and enforcement of the AVG across Europe. This includes supervisors aligning their national information with the information provided by the EDPB as a whole. Supervisors will also coordinate practices, take joint actions and assess guidelines for effectiveness.
The EDPB will also more actively publicize the priorities of national regulators so that organizations better understand what is expected of them and what they need to do.
Legislation in the digital age is becoming increasingly complex. Therefore, cooperation is also needed with regulators in other areas, to solve legal and practical problems and ensure uniform interpretation therein as well.
Input organizations
Organizations and other stakeholders are given the opportunity to provide input, both at the national and European level. The EDPB also makes the overall results of those consultations public.
