The 'Trilogue' negotiations on the ePrivacy Regulation started yesterday (May 20). So reports the President of the Council of the European Union (Portugal).

The European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of the EU each approved their own version of the regulation (in February, read more here more) and must now agree on a final text. This could still be a tough job, as the Commission and Parliament want to be stricter than the Council on several points, for example when it comes to cookies. In April, thirty civil society organizations, including the Dutch Bits of Freedom, sent another open letter to MEPs, urging them to ensure a high level of privacy protection and to address the weaknesses of the Council's position during the Trilogue.
