DigiD usage rises to 550 million logins in 2024

In 2024, Dutch people logged in more than 550 million times with DigiD, an increase of nearly 15 percent compared to 2023. Back then, the counter stood at 480 million. DigiD, a service of Logius, thus plays an increasingly important role in daily life. From tax returns to healthcare declarations: more and more often you arrange matters securely online with DigiD.

More organizations are also using DigiD. For example, you can now log in with health care providers and via apps from some health insurers. Where previously these apps only asked for DigiD at the first use, it has now become standard. Think, for example, of viewing your medical records or applying for healthcare benefits.

Secure login more popular

Users are increasingly choosing secure login methods such as the DigiD app or SMS verification. In 2023, 340,000 people still logged in using only a username and password. By 2024, that number will have dropped to 90,000, a decrease of nearly 75 percent. This shows that the Dutch are increasingly aware of online security.

Support for all

Logius ensures that DigiD remains accessible, also for people who are less digitally literate. They regularly conduct user surveys and offer support through their helpdesk(link to other website). They also work together with Informatiepunten Digitale Overheid (IDOs) and interest groups. This keeps DigiD usable for everyone.
