The structures in the physical security domain ('on the street') do not always match the challenges municipalities face in the digital domain (online). This emerged from a series of administrative talks on digital security recently organized by the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG).
In the area of physical security, many (legal) rules and structures already exist. For digital security, these are still being developed and researched.
The administrative discussions are intended to share knowledge and experiences, create more awareness and get digital security higher on the administrative agenda. A number of questions keep recurring in this process:
What digital security requirements do you place on external vendors?
How do you ensure that there is a focus on digital security throughout the municipality?
What do you do in the event of an incident?
How much do you spend on digital security?
Starting in September, the VNG will organize a new round of administrative talks on digital security (link to other website) for (deputy) mayors, municipal secretaries and (for example) public order and security advisors, data protection officers and chief information security officers (cisos).
