According to The Shadowserver Foundation, a nonprofit security organization, 332 IoT devices in the Netherlands are part of a sizeable botnet. Malicious actors are using this network to carry out DDoS attacks.
It involves the botnet named Eleven11bot, which is composed of compromised IP cameras and network video recorders. These include security cameras that use hard-coded or weak passwords.
Security company GreyNoise previously announced that this botnet consists of about 30,000 devices. According to The Shadowserver, it now involves more than 86,000 devices. Most of these are said to be located in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.
According to the Nokia Deepfield Emergency Response Team (ERT), the botnet is responsible for DDoS attacks against communications service providers and the gaming hosting infrastructure, among others. The attackers are using a variety of attack vectors.
