In the week of September 16, the Information Security Service of the VNG organizes the week of the DPIA for all municipalities in the Netherlands. During this week we emphasize the importance (and AVG obligation) of a good Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) with the aim of protecting the privacy of residents.
DPIA is a tool to identify in advance the privacy risks of a data processing operation, in order to then take measures to reduce those risks to an acceptable level. The DPIA thus also constitutes evidence that appropriate risk mitigation measures have been considered.
The Information Security Service (IBD) has published a new guide Together towards a qualitative DPIA published. In addition, we are organizing 3 webinars and publishing awareness materials, including an exciting comic strip about Super Privacy Officer. We are also calling the winner of the DPIA Award 2024, the award for the best municipal DPIA. During the week, we encourage municipalities to share DPIAs with each other: many DPIAs involve software and processes that are (almost) identical in each municipality.
