Lodewijk Asscher appointed chairman Digitalization Impulse Education

Dr. Lodewijk Asscher will be the new chairman of the Digitalization Impulse Education. The minister has agreed to the proposal of the nomination committee consisting of administrators from mbo, hbo and wo, and the ministry of OCW. Asscher will thus succeed the current chairman a.i. Hans Nederlof as of January 1, 2023.

The nominating committee proposed Asscher as a candidate for the presidency to Minister Dijkgraaf. The minister has agreed to this proposal. The committee is pleased with the new chairman. Asscher's very committed way of talking about connection between all sectors in education, especially secondary vocational education and higher education, convinced them of his enthusiasm. With his passion for education, his substantive knowledge and ability to connect, he is an asset to the program.

About his work for the Digitalization Impulse, Asscher says: "For me it is essential to contribute with the institutions to the education of the future. Good for students as well as good for society. That is what I want to actively contribute to as president."

Asscher will start on Jan. 1, 2023, and will be involved in building the program. As chairman, he will appoint the other members of the steering committee, who will be nominated by MBO Raad, Vereniging Hogescholen and Universities of the Netherlands. SURF will also have a seat on the steering committee. In addition, Asscher will play a role in selecting the director of the program.

About Digitalization Impulse Education

Digitalization Impulse Education is an eight-year program to improve education in mbo, hbo and wo by making even better use of the opportunities of cooperation and digitalization. All public mbo institutions, colleges and universities participate.

The program has three main ambitions:

- Improve the quality of education;

- Increasing the adaptivity of education;

- Improve the functional and critical digital skills of learners and teachers.

The program is funded by National Growth Fund monies.
