The Dutch Register of Data Protection Officers (NRFG) is expected to be introduced this year. The Ministry of Justice and Security recently announced this. The NRFG should strengthen the position of FGs and ensure the quality of their services.
"Although the role and duties of the FG are guaranteed by law, in principle anyone can call themselves an FG. As a result, large differences can exist regarding the content level of FGs. To remedy this, there will be a quality register. FGs must meet minimum quality requirements for this," the Ministry of Justice and Security has announced. "Clearer quality characteristics within the profession can additionally lead to recognition and acknowledgement of a good FG."
"The NRFG is for, by and of the profession itself, and enrollment in the registry is not an obligation. All efforts are aimed at achieving the actual establishment of the NRFG during 2025," the ministry said.
