Netherlands officially in race for giga-AI plant

The Netherlands has joined the race for an AI factory. This is a giant AI factory that is part of the European InvestAI program, reports De Telegraaf. The factory is to be built near Rotterdam. The plan to build the factory comes from entrepreneur Hans de Groot, in collaboration with energy company Eneco and a group of companies and knowledge institutions.

It involves a giant AI factory that would be 20 times the size of smaller AI factories, thirteen of which are to be built in Europe.

InvestAI

So now the Netherlands has made itself available for one of the AI factories that are part of the InvestAI program. This program is part of the European Commission's plan to reduce the European gap in AI compared to the US and China. The Commission wants to do this with 200 million euros of investment.

Ultimately, five countries will receive funding from the EU. Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic have also entered the race. What makes it difficult for the Netherlands to win, however, is that the government is outgoing. As a result, there is no formal government support for the plan.

The biggest bump in the road for the Dutch proposal at the moment is the lack of formal government support because the cabinet is outgoing. "If the Netherlands wants to participate in Europe, we must collectively show that we really want this," he said.
