News press release

PKIoverheid certificates are issued by Logius, part of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) for the government, or PKIoverheid for short, is an agreement system. It ensures a secure data exchange and connection between government, citizens and businesses and between governments themselves. The certificates are essential for secure digital communication. For example, they confirm the identity of websites, systems and persons. They enable secure connections (https://) and digital signatures.

Future-proof security

Certificates are becoming increasingly important. In addition, regulations are changing and security frameworks are constantly being tightened. That is why the new generation of certificates G3+ and G4 have been developed. The new generation of certificates meets the latest standards and is more resistant to future digital threats.

Don't wait to switch

The new certificates are available as of now. Logius advises organizations not to wait. By November 2028, all certificates must be replaced. This seems far away, but a timely switch prevents failures and vulnerabilities.

How do you prepare?

Check what certificates your organization uses and whether systems are ready for the switch. Discuss this with your certificate vendor or IT specialist. This will ensure that the new certificates are implemented correctly.
