NEN has published two new standards that contribute to better data availability and electronic data exchange in healthcare: NEN 7541 and NEN 7519. The standards are in line with the Electronic Data Exchange in Healthcare Act (Wegiz) and support healthcare providers in the electronic and standardized exchange of health data.

The NEN 7541 standard describes how radiological images and accompanying reports can be made available electronically between healthcare providers and in the context of population screening. Making image information available digitally supports the timely and complete provision of information and eliminates the need for physical transfer of image material.
NEN 7519 focuses on the localization of health data. The standard describes how healthcare providers can determine which healthcare providers have access to patient data when this data is spread across multiple organizations. This supports collaboration in chain and network care and is an important prerequisite for data availability.
Both standards are in line with the Wegiz, which makes electronic and standardized data exchange mandatory in healthcare for designated data exchanges. By establishing agreements on the availability of image information and the localization of health data, both standards contribute to more accessible and coherent information provision in healthcare.
