Secretary of State Van Huffelen has presented the new Children's Rights Impact Assessment (KIA). The KIA was created for developers of digital products. Its purpose is to identify whether their products respect children's rights. The assessment looks at both parts of the online service that strengthen children's rights and parts that pose risks to children's rights.
The KIA is one of the actions from the Value-Driven Digitization Work Agenda and was created by Considerati and Leiden University on behalf of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK). "The digital world is changing by the day, but the impact of technology on children is not always immediately noticeable. Therefore, we need to ensure that children's rights are also well protected in the online world," Van Huffelen said.
The government wants to help children seize the opportunities of the online world while protecting them from online dangers. This is a joint task, in which active contributions from scientists, companies, governments, parents, schools and children are essential. To achieve this, the government is taking several measures. This Kamerbrief of July 14, 2023 (1) shows what is already being done and what the new plans are.
