Ministry IenW is working on a Digital System for Mobility Data (DSM) with a national Road Network Registration (WNR). VNG has conducted research into the impact among municipalities. The findings from the 2 reports form an important basis for further discussions with intended partners within the DSM.
For some time now, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW) and municipalities have been in good talks about upcoming European obligations and their consequences for municipalities. The Ministry of IenW announced the Digital System for Mobility Data (Digitaal Stelsel Mobiliteitsdata) with a national Road Network Registration (WNR) within it in the room letter of May 22, 2023. Within the development of the DSM and the WNR, governments are working together, with municipalities playing a key role as both source holder and user of the data.
By the end of 2023, the discussions led to 3 studies commissioned by VNG and IenW. These studies focused on:
The analysis of municipalities' current work processes around road features.
The workloads of future Road Network Registration.
The impact of the European Real-Time Traffic Information (RTTI) regulation on municipal operations.
Since the outcomes could have a significant impact on implementation by municipalities, discussions on financing these tasks will need to be carefully conducted. These discussions are not expected to be completed before 2025. The Space, Housing and Mobility and Information Society committees represent municipalities in these discussions.
