Call: what is your experience with emotion AI?

Personal Data Authority April 28, 2025

News press release

News press release
In the upcoming Report AI & Algorithm Risks Netherlands (RAN), the Personal Data Authority (AP) does an exploration of the deployment of emotion AI in society. With the RAN, we provide insight into trends and developments of the deployment of algorithms and AI in the Netherlands.

Emotion AI

There is increasing attention in society to AI systems that appear to recognize emotions. The purpose of these systems is to make judgments about a person's emotional state based on biometric data - such as facial expression, pitch of voice, perspiration or heart rate. For example, whether someone is sad or happy.

Share your experience

The AP is looking for people who have had personal experience with emotion-AI. For example, because devices for private use apply emotion recognition, or that emotion-AI was used during customer contact with an organization. The experiences and input will be used to form a picture of the use and risks of the technology in practice.

Do you have experiences with emotion AI that you would like to share with us? Please email your experience no later than May 6, 2025 to dca@autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl marked "Experiences with emotion AI."

Note: We are not looking for experiences with the use of emotion recognition in the workplace or in education in this context. This has been prohibited since February 2, 2025.

Processing of personal data

We process the experiences shared with us only for the RAN, in which the results are anonymized. Your personal data will be deleted after six months at the latest. Read more about the processing of your personal data in the AP Privacy Statement.
