Government accessible via IPv6 by the end of 2021

All government websites and government e-mail domains must be fully accessible via IPv6, in addition to IPv4, by the end of 2021. That is what the Government-wide Digitale Overheid Policy Consultation (OBDO) decided this week.

Digitale Overheid April 14, 2020

The decision follows the Memorandum of Understanding signed in October 2019.

Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is version 6 of the Internet protocol for using IP addresses. It is the successor to Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4).

Faster service and less fraud

"With IPv6, the government is opting for Internet growth and innovation, more direct and faster services, and the prevention of fraud. IPv6 is the open Internet standard that every Internet user needs in order to continue to use the Internet unimpeded in the future," said Larissa Zegveld, president of the Standardization Forum.
