Patiëntenfederatie Nederland and the Nederlandse Vereniging van Ziekenhuizen want healthcare providers to be able to exchange medication data by default. However, people should be given the opportunity to explicitly object via an opt-out.
The medication overview provides an overview of which medications patients are taking and by which healthcare providers they have been prescribed. Patients Federation of the Netherlands and the Dutch Association of Hospitals point out that not being able to share this information by default can lead to people being prescribed the wrong medication. Both organizations advocate replacing the current opt-in system with an opt-out system.
Health Minister Kuipers is currently working on a proposal to enable the sharing of medical data in emergency care. Recently, a motion was introduced requesting the cabinet to find out if current patient medication summaries could be added to the bill, including the option to allow people to object to this sharing via an opt-out.
