Every year on Budget Day, the government presents its plans for the upcoming year. Much attention is paid to equality of opportunity, security of existence and perspective. But what plans does the cabinet have for digitalization?
The budget documents of the Ministry of Interior and Kingdom Relations include these spearheads:
guarding rights and public values in the information society:
encouraging the responsible use of new technologies to improve government services and solve societal questions;
secure, user-friendly and inclusive (digital) government services;
A secure and reliable identity system that makes secure and efficient use of (personal) data;
contribute to trust in government by improving the information position of citizens and businesses;
The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations finds it important that services are accessible to everyone and wants to use digital innovations to solve social questions. In addition, the cabinet is considering a "rapid response team" for ai to prevent the Netherlands from being overwhelmed by ChatGPT and other ai tools with which all kinds of content can be created at lightning speed;
King Willem Alexander also emphasized the importance of digitization in the Speech from the Throne:
"Digitalization and artificial intelligence lead to new opportunities and risks in the areas of work, healthcare, education and the economy. The government is taking steps to ensure that everyone can participate safely and securely, including by helping people acquire digital skills."
