Privacy First Foundation is concerned about the Ministry of Health's intention to exchange medical data of Dutch citizens on a large scale via a cloud platform from Microsoft.
A year ago, then Health Minister Kuipers announced that there would be a public generic access function. This would make people's data from medical records more quickly and completely available through their personal health environment (PBL). This access function has now been named "My Health Overview.
"I am also exploring how citizens can be given the choice through their PBM to make healthcare data available or not using a tiered opt-out and the management of this opt-out," said Adema, the current health minister.
The Privacy First Foundation is concerned about this. "Under the guise of 'more control,' the Minister is heading for a legal basis that, in addition to the inspection function, also paves the way for a wide range of Orwellian dreams," the privacy organization responds. "Healthcare will become a data factory for all sorts of other interests, with our medical data (our private lives!) as the main raw material."
Privacy First points out that if disclosure of medical data takes place via Microsoft's cloud, Dutch patient data will also be retrievable in the US.
