Even in 2022, the threats against Dutch society remain diverse and complex. The AIVD sees that a multitude of actors are active in diverse areas. In particular, cyber threats and right-wing extremism and terrorism will have the AIVD's attention.

Among other things, technological development is required to cope with the various forms of threat. In this regard, the ability to apply cable interception to the intelligence process is essential. This is essential to identify threats in the digital domain.
The Netherlands and Dutch interests have been targeted by countries with offensive cyber programs, including Russia and China. This threat to the Netherlands and Dutch interests remains unabated and will only increase in the future. The AIVD and MIVD are working intensively together to counter this threat. Especially in the digital domain, it is necessary to be able to operate quickly and agilely. It is important that the law is sufficiently in line with the technologically complex and dynamic intelligence practice. We are currently examining ways to resolve operational bottlenecks.
Since 2021, an increase in violence has been observable from right-wing extremists. The current that will be particularly invested in in 2022 is so-called "accelerationism. Supporters of this current glorify and justify terrorist violence in order to accelerate (acceleration) the replacement of the current political system with a white ethnostate. Recruitment of followers and mixing with other extremist networks takes place primarily online, necessitating online presence and deployment of technical resources by the AIVD.
