State Secretary Knops (BZK) has presented the updated Government Data Agenda - NL DIGITAL 2020 - to the House of Representatives. This update shows even more emphatically the importance of data for important social tasks. The updated agenda is accompanied by a 2019 progress report.

More central to 2020 than in the previous agenda are the availability of data, the quality of that data and making better use of it in social tasks. The agenda is intergovernmental; the rijksoverheid and local governments are jointly implementing the Government Data Agenda. The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations plays a coordinating role in this, based on its responsibility for digitale overheid and safeguarding fundamental rights.
The Agenda's ambition is to collaboratively promote the sharing, combining and analysis of data. The policy goals therefore remain unchanged: safeguard public values and legislation; better organize government data; more sharing and better use of government data; sharing knowledge, and investing in people and organizations to take data-driven work within the public sector a step further.
In addition to the updated agenda, here is a look back at 2019: the implementation of the Government Data Agenda is on schedule. A number of activities will continue in 2020, as planned. The progress report further explains the achieved results of the Data Agenda Government.
The Secretary of State's offer letter hooks into current events. The corona crisis makes it clear how important it is for organizations to be able to work with current and accurate information. Making data open and available to all relevant parties - while taking into account legal safeguards for privacy - is of great importance, says Knops. By making smarter use of available government information and making it available where possible, it is possible to mobilize more thinking and computing power. The secretary of state refers to an overview of data initiatives around Covid-19 by the Learning and Expertise Point Data-driven working.
