News press release

In April 2023, the first (pdf) version of the Information Security and Privacy Standards Framework for Primary Education was published. With the IBP Framework of Standards, we as a sector agree on the minimum requirements for digitally secure education so that every school can meet them. The Framework of Standards describes the standards for digital security and gives school organizations tools to protect themselves as well as possible against current digital threats in fundamental education (1), such as data leaks and cyber attacks. The goal is that students, parents and staff can learn and work in a digitally safe school environment and that their personal data is protected.

Same standards more user-friendly, concrete and focused on education

The IBP Framework of Standards was developed in collaboration with education and at the initiative of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Kennisnet, SIVON, the PO Council and the VO Council. In a working group of the IBP Network and a sounding board group, schools have recently provided input, given feedback and interpreted concepts from the Framework of Standards for education. This has resulted in an updated (web) version of the IBP Framework of Standards, which can be found on normenkaderibp.kennisnet.nl (2) from June 6, 2024. This website replaces the pdf of the Framework of Standards. The updated IBP Framework of Standards is now more user-friendly, searchable and easier to read. The standards are more concrete and more focused on education.

Inspiration: this is how OMO tackles information security and privacy

Digital security is critical in education. After all, students, parents and staff trust us with their data. But what is "secure enough"? Association OMO has an organization-wide approach for all its (over 60) schools in North Brabant. They began an intensification program around digital security back in 2017, for which they received emphatic support from their Supervisory Board. Discover the "Approach to digital security at association OMO" (6) from the perspective of the director, ICT strategist and two school leaders.

Digital Safe Education

The IBP Framework of Standards is part of the Digitally Secure Education program (7). With the program, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Kennisnet, SIVON, the PO Council and the VO Council join forces for an education sector in which every student can learn digitally safely and employees can work digitally safely. The program offers school boards clear guidance and a concrete support offer. The program also encourages suppliers to align their product portfolio with the standards framework. In this way, schools can fulfill their responsibility to achieve a digitally secure organization. Step by step, Bit by Bit.
