A set of eight requirements ensures better protection of consumers against cyber attacks. This is evident from research commissioned by Agentschap Telecom. The findings from the research are being used by the Netherlands Radiocommunications Agency to effectively establish the introduction of digital security requirements for smart devices within Europe.
The eight requirements stem from a literature review conducted by Bluemark Innovations and Qbit Cyber Security, which specializes in network technology and data security. To do so, the researchers looked at worldwide recent publications on the security of smart consumer products. They collected the most common vulnerabilities and then assessed all the security measures listed. The eight requirements not only increase the security of smart consumer devices, but can also be easily tested and implemented by manufacturers.
