Ruling on the rejection by the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens a request to take enforcement action against Focus Filmtheater in Arnhem. A resident of Arnhem made this request to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens the cinema no longer accepts cash payments. Cinema tickets can now only be paid for by debit card at the box office or via the Focus Filmtheater website. Refreshments can also no longer be paid for with cash. The man believes that he should be able to visit the arthouse films offered by Focus Filmtheater anonymously. In his opinion, there is no need to process personal data for debit card payments, and this is in violation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens that the cinema has not violated the GDPR and that there is therefore no reason to take enforcement action. According to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens , the processing of personal data when purchasing a cinema ticket and refreshments is Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens for the performance of a contract. The man Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens appealed against the decision of the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens to the Gelderland District Court, but the court did not rule in his favor. He is not giving up and has appealed against the court's ruling to the Administrative Law Division. The latter heard the case on July 30, 2025.
