The man started working for the police in January 2017. Within a year of joining the force, he began searching police systems for information about specific individuals from the criminal underworld. He passed this confidential information on to those individuals in exchange for payment. This even caused an ongoing police investigation to collapse.

consultation hours The man did this very often and over a period of almost a year. He even held a kind of "consultation hour" during which he sat in his car with several people and looked up information on demand and shared it with those people. The man stated that he was being threatened and that he therefore passed on the information. The court does not find this explanation plausible.

Trust betrayed
The court strongly condemns the man for seriously abusing his special position as a police officer. He is expected to demonstrate absolute integrity. Instead, the man has seriously damaged the trust placed in him and disrupted the investigation of criminal offenses. He did this solely for the purpose of making money. In doing so, the man undermines the rule of law. He also causes serious damage to the trust that must be placed in the police.

confiscation claim The man earned money by passing on the information. The public prosecutor has filed a confiscation claim. This claim will be heard on July 16.
