Article 50

International cooperation for the protection of personal data

With respect to third countries and international organizations, the Commission and supervisory authorities shall take the necessary measures to:

  • Develop procedures for international cooperation to facilitate effective enforcement of personal data protection laws;

  • provide international mutual assistance in the enforcement of personal data protection laws, including through notification, complaint referral, investigation assistance and information exchange, subject to appropriate safeguards for the protection of personal data and other fundamental rights and freedoms;

  • engage stakeholders in discussions and activities to promote international cooperation in the enforcement of personal data protection laws; and

  • promote the exchange and documentation of personal data protection laws and practices, including on jurisdictional disputes with third countries.
