Vilente in Ede has suffered a data breach in a GPS system. The care dome uses the track and trace system to track and trace residents who go on walks. Because of the data leak, for more than a year, unauthorized people were also able to track the elderly.

The user name chosen by the care dome to log in was the obvious 'vilente'; the password was '123456′. Dagblad De Gelderlander, in a random check, was able to retrieve the details of 16 residents of the De Klinkenberg, Sint Barbara and De Pleinen nursing homes in Ede, Pieter Pauw in Wageningen and Het Beekdal in Heelsum.
It involved data on the residents, including surname, gender, name and phone number of their care facility, as well as where they were at the survey time. With the track and trace system mobiletrack.nl, it was possible to find out from minute to minute where the elderly had been. The system's history goes back up to 33 days.
Vilente turned off the system last week. The data breach has since been reported to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens AP). The families of the affected residents have also been notified.
