Mayor Van Zanen of the municipality of The Hague has awarded the Hague Cyber Security Torch for the first time. The honor was bestowed on a digital neighborhood police officer from the Zuiderpark base team.
The officer was praised for his efforts to make Hague citizens and business owners more digitally resilient. In schools, he educates about cyberbullying, sextortion, grooming and money mules. He also gives workshops to senior citizens on recognizing digital crime.
The Ambassador Digital Safe in the Neighborhood also received a torch. He received it for his work in sharing knowledge about digital safety with neighborhood residents and businesses. It is an initiative of volunteers, sometimes collaborating with the neighborhood police.
Van Zanen: "Criminals are constantly coming up with new ways to intimidate people and organizations online and take money or information from them. Digital neighborhood cop Malek and neighborhood ambassador Jurriaan who are making enormous efforts to make citizens and businesses more resilient are therefore worth their weight in gold."
