The European Parliament recently voted on the new AI law(link to other website). The proposal received a large majority. The law regulates the responsible use of artificial intelligence in Europe. For example, AI systems must be safe and transparent. In addition, algorithms must not discriminate or violate human rights.

The vote resulted in 84 votes in favor and 7 against. Rapporteur Dragos Tudorache "It is the first time in the world that AI is being regulated. This means that Europe can take the lead in putting people at the center of using AI. And that we do so in a reliable and safe way."
The AI Act is going to regulate a number of important issues.
There is no room in Europe for certain systems. Consider computer systems that analyze citizens' behavior and judge them based on that;
There will be a check on the design of AI systems. In addition, they will look at the impact on citizens.
It should always be clear to citizens when they are dealing with AI. For example, if they are interacting with a chatbot, they should be aware of it.
Filing complaints and getting explanations about AI systems should become easier.
Companies and developers should be transparent about the use of artificial intelligence and make it clear how the AI systems work. This makes it easier to figure out how the AI gets its answers and whether they are correct.
There will be a plenary vote in the European Parliament next month. After that, negotiations will begin between the Parliament and the European Council on the precise details of the AI law. A final agreement is expected in early 2024.
