Minister Bruins is working on a law that requires data exchange between healthcare providers to be electronic. If healthcare providers exchange data with each other electronically, the information needed to treat patients goes from one healthcare provider to another faster and without errors. They then no longer need to do this via paper records, fax or CD-ROM.

Electronic data exchange in healthcare is important to provide good care. A healthcare provider must have the right information at the right time to know what is involved and what treatment has already been given. It prevents avoidable errors and saves time. Time that a nurse or doctor can devote to a patient.
This week the Internet consultation starts. In consultation goes the bill Electronic Data Exchange in Healthcare with an explanation of the bill (Explanatory Memorandum). The Internet consultation is intended to get input on the bill and improve it further. The Internet consultation is open from March 10 to April 7, 2020.
