The private addresses of about 50,000 Dutch car renters have been leaked. The incident occurred at car-sharing platform Snappcar. The leak was repaired within a day. Snappcar has informed RTL that it will inform the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (AP) about this.

Individuals have the opportunity to rent and/or lease a car from Snappcar. The company's website shows the approximate location of these vehicles. The exact address is only released when someone rents a car. Usually that is the home address of the renter. A Snappcar spokesperson revealed that the company did not know that this data could be found publicly: "This is absolutely not the intention." The people affected will be notified by the company via email.
According to Snappcar, there is no evidence that the address information fell into the wrong hands. "As a sharing platform, we are aware of the importance of trust in our platform and the privacy of our users. We regret that we have failed to ensure this privacy to the high standard our users expect from us," the company said in a statement. "Immediately after we were made aware of the unsecured access, we fixed the problem, so the address information and license plates are now no longer public."
