The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport will in the short term enter into consultations with professional and trade organizations, Health Insurers Netherlands and the Patients Federation on the visible display of the BIG number. The background to this arrangement is greater transparency and clarity for the patient. The BIG number makes it easy to find a BIG-registered healthcare provider in the BIG register. The registration gives (future) patients the assurance that a BIG-registered healthcare provider is competent and sufficiently qualified.
The goal of the consultations is to reach a solution that pays attention to the administrative burden and allows sufficient time for implementation. This may lead to a new AMvB. Until the AMvB is adjusted accordingly, the IGJ is asked not to enforce the visible display of the BIG number.
