The Dutch language is rapidly gaining new words. The Dikke van Dale alone no longer suffices, because our current society has a high degree of development in the digital domain. A domain that is constantly evolving to meet the needs of society. The associated terminology is not easy for everyone to understand. Words like access control and zero-day are widely used in the technical field, but the exact meaning is often unknown outside the field. There was an urgent need for a cybersecurity Dictionary - a sort of Thick Digital so

Hence this initiative by the Cybersecurity Alliance and Cyberveilig Nederland. A dictionary that connects the technical professional with other professionals, who increasingly have to deal with cybersecurity. As coordinating minister for cybersecurity, I am proud to present this initiative. Why is this dictionary so important? We can only achieve a digitally secure Netherlands if everyone involved knows what they are talking about. This is how we work together to create a digitally resilient Netherlands.
In 2018, the Netherlands Cybersecurity Agenda (NCSA) was published. This was the starting signal for an integrated approach to cybersecurity. A collaboration of parties from the public and private sector, science and society. The Cybersecurity Alliance is one of the initiatives that emerged from the NCSA. This platform carries out concrete, short-term projects that contribute to a digitally resilient Netherlands. One of those results is before you, in the form of a practical tool to better understand the content of the digital world.
Under the leadership of Cyberveilig Nederland, more than 60 organizations, government parties and private parties collaborated in the compilation of the dictionary. A glossary of nearly 600 cybersecurity terms has been compiled to make reports, advice or quotations easier to understand, for example. No more secret language, but terms with clear explanations. This knowledge gives people confidence that they understand each other. And trust in the digital domain is essential in our society.
