Almost all audited government organizations have now registered a data protection officer with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (AP). One organization will do so in the near future. The AP is monitoring progress. The AP audited 400 government organizations, including municipalities, provinces, water boards, ministries and a number of independent administrative bodies. Initially, less than 4% may not yet have registered an officer.

Since the introduction of AVG, one of the things the AP does is randomly check for compliance with requirements of the privacy law. For example, the AP also checked health insurers and hospitals for FGs and did a spot check of large private organizations to see if they keep a register of processing activities.
About the Data Protection Officer
Since May 25, 2018, new European privacy legislation, the General Data Protection Regulation (AVG), has been in force. Part of this includes requiring all government and public organizations to appoint a data protection officer (FG). FGs perform an important function within organizations to protect people's personal data and to comply with privacy laws. The FG can advise from an independent position on how privacy laws should be applied in his organization.
