Telecom providers are wary of the bill requiring them to share telecom data with the RIVM. Unnamed sources recently told NOS this.

According to the Ministry of Health, the RIVM can use the telecom data to act more quickly in the event of a possible rise in corona infections in an area by alerting the regional GGD.
The data received by the RIVM consist of a count of the total number of cell phones present per municipality, per hour. For foreign numbers, a distinction is made based on the phone number. When the law takes effect, providers will have to provide CBS with anonymized data on a daily basis.
The sources who spoke to NIS are concerned about the design of the database in which the data are stored. Based on the stored data, a person's place of residence can be traced. It also requires traceable data, which may allow individuals to be traced. There are also concerns that the database may be of interest to investigative agencies because such data is not currently collected.
